CGS-Geotechnical Info Net is pleased to feature the CGS 2016 Awardees. In this issue, Dr. Bruno Bussière, winner of the 2016 Geoenvironmental Award of the CGS Geoenvironmental Division, is featured. Dr. Bussière’s citation reads:
“Dr. Bruno Bussière is being honoured for his outstanding work and leadership in the field of mine waste management and site reclamation. A Professor at Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue. Dr. Bussière has held two NSERC Industrial Research Chairs and a Canada Research Chair. In 2013, his achievements led to the establishment of the Research Institute of Mines and the Environment, one of the largest such institutes in Canada and internationally.
Dr. Bussière’s endeavours are having an immense influence on the vitality of his university and the mining community in the Abitibi region of Québec. His research has led to the development of new and original techniques to prevent the production of contaminated water for operating and closed mine sites. He has published hundreds of papers and conference articles, and has contributed to the training of more than 60 graduate students. His innovative contributions have resulted in Dr. Bussière being named the 2004 CGS Colloquium Lecturer and in receiving the 2012 Association pour le développement de la recherche et de l'innovation du Québec and NSERC Award. He was named Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering earlier this year and has just become the Chair of the CGS Geotechnical Research Board. Dr. Bussière's contributions make him a leader in his field, at the local, national and international levels. This award highlights the recognition of his peers.
