In support of its mission to promote the engineering profession by preserving Canadian engineering history and archives, the Engineering Institute of Canada (EIC) is pleased to announce that videos of 27 Oral History Interviews to Preserve Canadian Engineering Achievements are now available via the following link: https://eic-ici.ca/history/engineering-history-interviews-collection/.
From the EIC:
The primary objective of this initiative is to capture and preserve Canadian achievements in biological, biomedical, civil, electrical, geotechnical, mechanical, nuclear and dam engineering through oral history interviews of prominent engineers. Politicians often publish memoirs – yet even very eminent engineers typically don’t. We hope that the personal recollections of these individuals will serve as original sources for researchers and provide professional guidance for current engineers-in-training. The interviews also show the human side of these engineers.
A second objective is to inform secondary school students of the potential experiences to be gained by pursuing a career in engineering. We are delighted that the interviewees represent a broad diversity of engineering fields and cultures. To date, 11 female and 17 male engineers have been interviewed and more will be conducted over the next three years.
