On behalf of the ASTM International Committee D18 Soil and Rock (ASTM D18) Executive Committee, I would like to extend an invitation to the Canadian Geotechnical Society members to join us at the next meeting of the Committee In Toronto. The Committee D18 will meet Monday, June 23, 2025 - Wednesday June 25, 2025 at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel (123 Queen St W). The most current version of the committee week meeting schedule can be found on the D18 meeting website Meeting Schedule). Attendees can register for any meetings of interest through the Committee Week website.
Committee D18 manages more than 300 technical standards for the geotechnical profession and provides some of the most globally used and accepted test methods. D18 members have diverse backgrounds representing industry, government agencies, and academia. Membership is open to all interested colleagues across the world.
During the in-person meetings, committee members and visitors (i.e., non-members) have the opportunity to discuss changes to the standards and associated test methods, practices, guides, and specifications under the committee's purview; review new applications in testing and analysis; propose new standards and evaluate proposed new standards; propose revisions and assess revisions to existing standards; and deliberate the latest developments in geotechnical engineering. ASTM meetings are unique in that they are completely open to all interested stakeholders. ASTM membership is not required for attendance and payment of a conference/registration fee is not needed. The organization simply asks that you register as an attendee through their website and then you are welcome to join the meetings and participate as desired.
The ASTM Geotechnical Testing Journal, represented under subcommittee D18.92, also holds a meeting during the committee week. The meeting provides an opportunity to get engaged in the management of the journal.
