Dr. Derek Martin of the University of Alberta will present Monday’s opening R.M. Hardy Address: Ground Hazards and Canadian Railway Operations. That will be followed by the 2018 Darcy Lecture presented Dr. Masaki Hayashi of the University of Calgary entitled: Alpine Hydrogeology: The Critical Role of Groundwater in Sourcing the Headwaters of the World.
New in 2018 will be a special session on Monday afternoon addressing Diversity and Inclusion: Women in Engineering. Hosted by the Professional Practice Committee, the session will feature presentations by six prominent female professionals on inclusion and diversity in engineering and academia, and will explore challenges and opportunities for building more equitable workplaces through a moderated question and answer period with the panel.
Besides the technical and social events planned for GeoEdmonton 2018, the 2018 CGS & IAH-CNC Awards will be presented at Monday evening’s Awards Banquet. Wednesday’s closing luncheon will recognize prominent women in the geotechnical profession, both past and present, as well as “Lives Lived”. In addition, CGS’s Divisions, Committees and Boards will hold their respective annual meetings during the conference.
