A Word from Mario
Bonjour – Hello everyone. I am very excited to begin my mandate as your new CGS President. I first want to wish all our members, sponsors and CGS office personnel a healthy, happy and successful year 2019 – “Sincerement: Bonne Année a tous!’’.
My team and I will be taking over the direction of a very good ship. The CGS is in better shape than ever, and this is due to the dedicated hard work of the previous team under the friendly leadership of Dharma Wijewickreme. In addition to running the affairs of the society flawlessly, important progress has been accomplished on;
On behalf of the CGS, I’d like to express our appreciation and sincere thanks to Dharma for his great contribution, all delivered with his contagious smile.
During the next two years, we will continue to progress on these initiatives with a strong focus on the new online CFEM, which will be led by Rob Kenyon; your new VP Technical. Judith Bouchard will take the leadership with new ways to serve our membership and also to crystalize the new strategic “Communication” plan as your new VP Communications & Member Services. Kent Bannister has accepted to continue his disciplined management as VP Finance and will support me in making the CGS even stronger with increased membership. I will provide a more elaborate presentation of the whole executive team and board of directors in the next issue of the Geotechnical News magazine.
We need to express our gratitude to all the volunteers who are donating their time and energy with passion for the success of our CGS. In order to continue the legacy and keep the CGS well organized through the years we can count on a very efficient administration team at the CGS National Office lead by Executive Director, Michel Aubertin with the support of Lisa McJunkin, Wayne Gibson, and Emily Fournier.
As I work with the CGS, I shall pay special attention to attract young geoprofessionals, encourage participation of more women in our field, make francophones feel more welcome and part of our “grande famille” and finally, I will endeavor to open the doors to more practitioner’s participation to share their experience. If you have any questions, suggestions or comments, please feel free to communicate with me directly at president@cgs.ca.
I am truly eager to work with our executive team and board of directors, to serve all members of the CGS for the next two years. I am looking forward to meeting most of you directly at the 72nd Canadian Geotechnical Conference, GeoSt.John's 2019 in Newfoundland. This is one conference you do not want to miss!!!
A bientot mes amis – See you later, my friends!!!
