To help commemorate the Canadian Geotechnical Society’s 70th anniversary, the ‘History of the CGS’ has recently been updated by Heritage Committee Chair Heinrich Heinz and immediate Past-President Doug VanDine, with contributions from Past-Presidents Michel Aubertin, Michael Bozozuk, and Don Shields, and CGS member Andrew Corkum. The update is entitled The Canadian Geotechnical Society – A Brief Historical Perspective to 2016, and draws from previous versions prepared by W.J. (Bill) Eden in 1985, and Past Presidents A.G. (Tony) Stermac in 1998 and Jim Graham in 2007.
Notable enhancements include added photographs of past contributors, such as the Society’s first president G. Geoffrey Meyerhof, and the historical development of the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, Sections, Technical Divisions and Standing Committees. The update is available on the CGS website at www.cgs.ca/archive_history. If you have any comments, suggestions additions, or corrections, please email heritage@cgs.ca.
