As mentioned in last month’s E-News, the CGS Conference GeoCalgary 2020 has been postponed until the fall of 2022. The CGS and LOC remain firmly committed to providing a platform for knowledge sharing, staying connected, and ensuring that CGS members receive the full value of their membership. Therefore, GeoVirtual 2020, the CGS’s first-ever online conference, will be held September 14-16, 2020!
We are confident that we can organize an event that will be rewarding to all participants, by providing authors from across the country and elsewhere an opportunity to present their work to online attendees and inclusion in the 2020 CGS Conference Proceedings. If you have any questions about your paper submission, please contact techcommittee@geocalgary2020.ca.
GeoVirtual 2020 will be a professionally run conference that will follow a similar format to what CGS conference delegates are accustomed to. We have confirmed that Dennis Becker will deliver the R.M. Hardy Keynote Address and Ariane Locat will give the 2020 CGS Colloquium. There are special sessions planned such as the Heritage Session and Women in Geotechnique panel, in addition to multiple concurrent sessions where authors will present their papers. We plan to provide networking opportunities and make the online platform as engaging as possible, as we understand the important impact connecting with others has during our usual conference experience, and particularly during these times.
Please visit the GeoCalgary 2020 FAQ webpage for further information; the new conference website (www.geovirtual2020.ca) will be updated as details are confirmed.
