In addition to the technical program with over 170 papers and Lectures from Dennis Becker (R. M. Hardy Address) and Ariane Locat (CGS Colloquium), the LOC is pleased to bring you the Women in Geotechnique and Young Professionals Special Sessions, and a very special presentation by Norbert Morgenstern, Distinguished University Professor Emeritus, University of Alberta.
Women in Geotechnique will feature a panel of men and women passionate about promoting women in the geotechnical community. The session will include a discussion and question and answer period, for delegates to better understand how to attract women to our industry and how to promote equality in the workplace. With panelists including Suzanne Lacasse, Heinrich Heinz, and Jocelyn Hayley, the session promises to be enlightening and inspirational. The Young Professionals Special Session will give students, EITs, and junior engineers and geoscientists the opportunity to network with more experienced members of the community, who can share their experience and provide inspiration and insight to the future of our industry. Finally, the LOC and CGS are incredibly honoured to have Norbert Morgenstern present on Learnings from Success and Learnings from Failure over the past fifty years as part of a special CGS Heritage Plenary Session. Professor Morgenstern’s contributions to geotechnique in Canada and worldwide will be highlighted in introductions by some distinguished Canadian professionals.
GeoVirtual 2020 will also feature four Short Courses on Thursday, September 17. Topics and instructors include:
Despite the conference being held virtually this year, the LOC has been hard at work to provide creative networking opportunities and to keep delegates engaged. Please visit the conference website at www.geovirtual2020.ca for more information on the conference program, social events, registration, and more. The CGS is looking forward to interacting with conference delegates online soon!
