CGS Member Nicholas Vlachopoulos recently presented a webinar in collaboration with the Young Members sections of the Tunnelling Assocation of Canada and the Greek Tunnelling Society, titled Eupalinos Tunnel – First tunnel to be excavated simultaneously from both ends in the 6th century B.C., on August 13. Nicholas’ presentation summarized the instrumentation, challenges, and techniques that were utilized in order to complete construction of the Eupalinos Tunnel. Nicholas is a Professor of Civil Engineering at the Royal Military College of Canada and a Director at the Queen’s-RMC GeoEngineering Centre. He has volunteered for the CGS, most recently as the previous Engineering Geology Division Chair.
