The CGS Student Chapters one-year pilot project ended in May of this year. This trial period gave the CGS the opportunity to assess how well the initiative was received in the seven universities that participated in the project. In one word: great! The response from the geotechnical community has been absolutely positive. Following the recommendations of a report written by the CGS Executive Committee, the CGS Board of Directors voted at the meeting held just before GeoVirtual 2020 in favor of officially recognizing the Student Chapters as a new CGS component. It is thus official; the Student Chapters are here to stay!
The CGS would like to thank Maraika DeGroot, past CGS Young Professional Representative, for having brought this initiative to life more than two years ago. The CGS would also like to welcome the newest member of the Student Chapters family: Western University!
If you are a student and you would like to get involved in the creation of a new Student Chapter at your local university, please reach out to Vincent Castonguay, CGS Young Professionals Representative.
