CGS-Geotechnical Info Net is pleased to feature the CGS 2016 awardees. In this issue, Dr. René Lefebvre, winner of the joint CGS Groundwater Division and International Association of Hydrogeologists - Canadian National Chapter’s 2016 Robert N Farvolden Award, is featured. Dr. Lefebvre’s citation reads:
“Dr. René Lefebvre is being honoured as an outstanding and inspiring nationally recognized scientific authority in hydrogeology.
After obtaining his MSc, Dr. Lefebvre worked as a petroleum geologist before returning to Université Laval in 1990, where he received his PhD in hydrogeology. Since then, his tenure at the Institut national de recherche scientifique, au Centre Eau, Terre et Environnement, in Québec City, has been one of great productivity and insight. Dr. Lefebvre is a renowned hydrogeologist whose work and fame far exceed our borders.
Dr. Lefebvre has conducted research spanning a wide range of topics, including heat transport, aquifer contamination, multi-phase flow, regional hydrogeological characterization, and potential upward migration of fluids from oil and gas activities. His expertise is diverse, but his scientific contributions share a series of common characteristics: they are based on meticulous collection of information and observations, well targeted fieldwork, laboratory analyses and numerical modeling, and thoughtful interpretation. His thorough understanding of multiple facets of geoscience ensures a seamless integration of results in multidisciplinary research projects and has led to over 150 publications and contributions to 20 books. Dr. Lefebvre has participated in many large-scale projects, in addition to training a large number of specialists who are now playing an important role in society.
The Groundwater Division and the IAH-CNC are pleased to recognize CGS member Dr. René Lefebvre with the 2016 Robert N. Farvolden Award.”
