The International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering’s next webinar on Tuesday, April 11 at 12:00 noon GMT will feature CGS member and Legget Medal Recipient Dr. Serge Leroueil of Université Laval. Dr. Leroueil’s talk is entitled Compressibility and Consolidation of Clays: From Lab to Field Conditions. The June 13 webinar will feature Dr. Robert Koerner, Professor Emeritus at Drexel University and Director Emeritus of the Geosynthetic Institute, presenting on Geosynthetic Reinforced MSE Walls: Overview, Failures and Items for Improvement. In other ISSMGE news, the ISSMGE Global Survey on the State of the Art (SoA) and the State of Practice (SoP) in Geotechnical Engineering has been launched. The survey is designed to identify important areas of development in bridging the gap between SoA and SoP, as well as to recognize the achievements of Geotechnics as a profession, and is available here. All ISSMGE members are encouraged to participate to help ensure the significance of the findings, until April 30, 2017.
The Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists’ Annual Meeting will take place in Colorado Springs from September 10-16, 2017. AEG has also launched their call for nominations for the 2018 Outstanding Environmental and Engineering Geologic Project Award. Full details are available on the AEG website. Nominations for the 2018 Outstanding Project are to be submitted to the AEG president by early January 2018.
